Programme Description
Phase 1 is where the opportunity begins for our beneficiaries.
Learners attending the Phase 1 Maths and Science tuition sessions every Saturday for a two year period. They receive two hours Maths tuition, two hour Science tuition every Saturday and two hours of Life Skills/Leadership Development training weekly. Our objective with the tuition is to strengthen their Maths and Science outcomes in order to help them achieve a Bachelor Pass by the end of their Grade 12 year. To date Go for Gold has attained a yearly average of 87% Bachelor Pass rates amongst our beneficiaries vs the National percentile at only 27%. The students need to maintain a 50% minimum in each subject to stay on the programme and should they falter, they are placed on probation period and given the opportunity to improve by the next term to stay on the programme.
Due to our beneficiaries coming from impoverished areas, we have to provide for them. In order for the beneficiaries to get to the weekly Maths and Science tuition, we provide them with transport from their homes to our campuses. As mentioned, they receive Maths tuition, Science tuition, Life Skills training and food .Other Phase 1 activities include free computer training classes, an orientation camp, mentor support,a Career Jamboree/guidance sessions, Uketha (interviews with partner companies for their Phase 2 year), Award Ceremony & holiday programmes with numerous site visits and educational talks by professionals from the built environment.
