Programme Description
Children in the rural township of Zweletemba (Worcester) are at risk from poor nutrition, neglect and potential violation in the absence of supervision and a lack of adequate support for learning and development due to poorly resourced homes, communities and schools. Sinetemba is a community based NPO that has established programmes to address these needs and we operate from containers in the township. The schools in the community in which we operate do not run aftercare or feeding programmes. Many children who access our children are not able to access ECD centres
We are registered with WC Govt Dept of Soc Dev - C-13071 as a Partial Care Facility
Our programmes include:
Daily nutrition provided by way of food kitchens in the communities where the children live
Structured aftercare activities including homework support, sporting activities, visual literacy, cognitive development, learning through play, life skills education, holiday programmes, computer literacy, numeracy and literacy support, guidance, behaviour management, counselling support and sport
Mentoring and training of existing staff( mostly previously unemployed) in terms of requirements for registered after care facility practitioners.
Meetings with other service providers, attendance at business and other community forums, mapping the community for resources that both children and staff can access, networking with other service providers to provide a basket of services to vulnerable children
