Programme Description
We are aware of current statistics that our learners are lagging behind when it comes to literacy and numeracy skills. The recent PRIL-results indicate that a substantial percentage of our grade 4 learners cannot read or comprehend properly. We are a parallel-medium school (English and Afrikaans) and it is our experience that especially the Afrikaans learners are struggling in their home language. Our systemic results show that our English-speaking learners fair much better in the annual provincial tests. We are trying to embark on a programme in 2018 which will enable us to enhance our learners' reading and numeracy skills in both languages of learning and teaching. Former teachers and other skilled people will help with rolling out of the after school intervention programme. The intervention will be based on the current CAPS curriculum. To be inclusive as possible transport arrangements must be put in place for those learners living further afield from the school.
