Programme Description
Dance for All has at its home base in Athlone on the Cape Flats, excellent dance studios available to children who are talented in dance and committed to the demands of this art form. Young beneficiaries hail from surrounding areas and also from Dance for All’s Cape Town as well as Rural Outreach programmes, the latter offering dance classes to impoverished communities in Barrydale and Worcester. In order to maintain the high standards that have defined Dance for All since its inception, auditions are conducted for potential young dancers to join the Athlone Academy and thereby benefit from the life-changing opportunities offered. Youngsters with potential are accommodated at appropriate levels – beginner, elementary, intermediate and advanced. Critically, given their impoverished backgrounds, transport is provided for the enthusiastic and talented young dancers, to and from classes at the Athlone studios, two or three times a week. Without the vital component of ensuring safe, reliable transport, generously funded by Dance for All’s loyal and supportive donor partners, these dedicated young people would not have the opportunity to participate in the professional level of teaching offered by the organisation.
