Programme Description
• Insufficient support for families in distress, affected by social problems such as: high rates of unemployment, domestic violence, teenage pregnancies, school-dropouts and an increase of substance abuse, etc by the existing Designated Child Protection organisations [DCPO’s], i.e.: The Department of Social Development [DSD], ACVV and Riebeek BADISA.
• Lack of a multipurpose centre for children and families to render therapeutically follow-up support services. Families in distress, who needs specialised services, needs to be referred to Family South-Africa [FAMSA], Mosaic in Atlantis, etc.
• The need for a registered shelter for battered women and children in the Swartland Service Delivery Area exists – cases needs to be referred to registered shelters in Atlantis [United Sanctuary], Vredenburg [Siyabonga] and Athlone [Saartjie Baardman], etc.
• Lack of a recreational centre for Youth for indoor sports facilities, arts, drama, cultural and recreational activities
