Programme Description
MAWCA has partnered with the Hot Spot Library that operates out of 2 metal containers, they have been actively involved in the community of Kraaifonetin (Western Cape) for the past 18 years, the library is a community developed library and our Goal is to promote reading books and writing for children in the community at every level. We do this through workshops in communities, and with the high rate of crime, drug and alcohol abuse, domestic violence and poverty in this area, the children of this community suffer a huge gap in education, it was found that between grade 4 and grade 6, most learners do not have the basic reading and understanding skills to formulate sentences, use phrases or tenses. Our programme works with the Children on a one on one basis and we also give them access to the library to borrow books which they can use to practice their reading skills. The aim of this project is to give learners the basic skills to equip and empower them to further their education, thus making them more credible for university and employment in the future.
