The FLP is a school-based initial teacher education development programme that places pre-service teachers in schools full-time to gain professional experience through a teacher internship while developing school leaders in in-service teachers to be effective mentors to the future leaders (teacher interns); and become effective teachers and leaders within the school. The programme aims to improve teacher education by facilitating substantial work-integrated learning, integrating theory into practice and utilising the future leaders to provide direct interventions to learners and strengthen classroom instruction. The programme capacitates schools to become professional practice schools and to become effective sites for teacher education and development.
