Once logged in, learners are able to select lessons for English, maths, science and computers from Grade 4-12, as well as a Foundational Literacy Programme for Grade 1-3 learners. Past papers and summary notes for the FET Phase for these and various additional subjects are also available on the tablets. The preset lessons all feature interactive videos and quizzes, and often other apps and PDFs as well. We use some of the best educational content available anywhere, by curating them into lessons arranged by theme. The learning experience is simple and self-paced, and the entire programme is gamified, with learners earning “coins” for how long they are active, as well as how well they do in their end of lesson quizzes – these can all be incentivised by the facilitating organisation. http://schoolinabox.co.za/how-does-it-work/   more >

Our Amy Foundation Youth Skills Development (YSD) Programme strives to provide a sustainable and holistic youth-development programme for school leavers and unemployed youth from challenged backgrounds through systematic and structured, mainly practical (vocational) training and experiential learning interventions. By better equipping them for work, study or entrepreneurship, we aim to ultimately link them up with our development partners by way of career, study or business opportunities. Our four main disciplines on offer in the YSD Programme are Hospitality, Beauty and Wellness, Craft and Design, and Soft Skills. Our Hospitality Programme training includes lessons about the important aspects of health, safety & hygiene, and an introduction to cooking. Our hospitality learners are exposed to catering and event management through tour groups visiting our premises, corporate team building, and private functions. The majority of our learners are linked up with internships and ultimately employment opportunities, through our development/industry partners. Our Beauty & Wellness Programme consists of beauty training classes which cover business ethics & etiquette as well as various spa treatments including facials, massage, nails, and waxing/threading. Our Craft & Design workshops are practical classes that encourage learners to explore their creative talents and to produce saleable products. All YSD participants train in various skills which are vital for successful careers.   more >
